kicking goals

So the 101 in 1001 list has been sitting there for a bit over a month now so it’s time for a progress report…

8. Order/buy a book I have read and give it away to someone – 10 Feb 2016

87. Read 10 new books [2/10]

I came across The 4 Dimensions of Extraordinary Leadership by Jenni Catron via the Propel Women mailing list.  They began their first ever book club towards the end of 2015 and of course being a lover of “firsts”, I wanted in too.  However,  even though I signed up to pre-order the book prior to its release, I didn’t really have time to read it until I was in Queensland in January 2016.

I must say that it was one of those books where I wanted to highlight every second paragraph.  It was packed with a lot of practical examples and real life experiences to demonstrate how effective leaders should be aware of leading with your HEART, SOUL, MIND and STRENGTH.

I’ve mentioned this book in conversation a number of times since reading it and I thought it would be a good one to pass on to some key leaders I know in my life.

new apps in the new year

One thing I’ve loved about switching back to the iPhone has been the plethora of apps :).

The ones I’ve used the most in the last few months have got to be:

  • Instagram (Free) – I think I’m addicted.
  • Whatsapp (Free) – Great way to communicate with interstate/international friends.
  • PicFrame ($0.99) – best 99 cents spent.
  • VSCOCam (Free) – this was one of the first ones I downloaded after switching back; finally understand what #vscocam was!
  • Landcam ($0.99) – love the fonts you can add to your photos!
  • iBooks (Free) – DOWNLOADED. TOO. MANY. BOOKS.

I came across a few other good ones just in the last few days:

‘made of awesome’ plug

There were two people this week who made comments about how much effort I’ve put into this blog and I guess I have because amongst many things, it’s what I like to call ‘productive procrastinating’.  However, this week has got me thinking about priorities and as “I’m still a full-time law student and not a full-time blogger”, I’ve decided that instead of apologising for my absence at the start of each post, I’ll just put a little notice on the right side bar –>

So if I’m not around these parts, that’s why :).

In other news, Finders Keepers is happening Friday and Saturday at the Royal Exhibition Building!  One of my law buddies who is also an AMAZING illustrator is part of the made of awesome team:

and they’ll have a stall down there so get your creative boots on and give them some love tomorrow!

You can also join the Facebook event page and invite friends to go too!

Have a great weekend, blog-o-sphere and I’ll see you around soon :).

Back but not…

Hello blog-o-sphere!  Hope you’ve all been well :).  I’ve just returned from a week relaxing up at the sunny Gold Coast!

Took so many photos using the RAW setting that my hard drive has overloaded and have a number of food posts in the works however, having less than a week to start my pre-readings I’m afraid things will have to wait around these parts until I catch myself up on real life.  I’ve also decided to give up this blog for Lent (along with a full fast once a week) so I pretty much won’t be back until after 1 April 2012!

Q: Are you giving up anything for Lent?

In the meantime, check out these blogs I’ve nominated for The Versatile Blogger Award:

They are a mix of blogs on food, faith or fun that I’ve been following and I’m sure they’ll keep you in good stead til I return :).

Thanks to Subhan Zein for nominating me on 15 February 2012!

For this award you have to do a couple of things as follows:

  1. Thank the award-giver and link back to them in your post.
  2. Share 7 things about yourself.
  3. Pass this award along to 15 recently discovered blogs you enjoy reading.
  4. Contact your chosen bloggers to let them know about the award.

Seven Things About Me:

  1. My knees go red when I’m nervous.
  2. I can’t ride a bike (yet).
  3. I love anything with berries in it.
  4. I flew in a helicopter onto Uluru once.
  5. I’ve become a gym junkie (I went 3 times while on holiday!).
  6. I’m going to start scholarship tutoring for the first time tomorrow – nervous!
  7. I got sucked in by a TVShop commercial and just bought an InStyler – fun times ahead :D.

Hope you’ll join me in a month or a bit if not over at the other blog ;).

Lunch at HuTong, dessert at Cacao Green, earrings and pretty dresses purchased… yep, freedom is sweet :).

I like how they’ve mixed two very difference songs together… and yep if you haven’t worked it out already, I’m walking on sunshine :).

Sand, sea and (hopefully some) sun, here I come!

hug it out!

Happy belated October!  I know everyone’s been saying it but seriously, this year has gone way too fast!  Thankfully the sun’s been out which equates to ‘a-very-happy-little-Ames-staring-off-into-the-distance-with-a-silly-smile-on-her-face’ every once in a while :).

There is a backlog of foodies posts but I’m behind in readings (again) so I shall refer you to this awesome post about HUGS because it’s the only thing second to sunshine on the happiness list IMO ;).  Hugs can really make a difference (unless you’re hug-o-phobic… I guess it would still make a difference but not in the positive sense) so go give someone a hug today/tonight/tomorrow/everyday!
